Botswana Game Reserves

Botswana is one of Africa 's ultimate luxury travel & safari destinations. With an area of 581 730 square kilometers, Botswana is virtually the same size as France, Kenya. Situated in the centre of Southern Africa, it is a landlocked country, with Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe as its immediate neighbours. Botswana lies at an average of 950 meters above sea level and is more than 600 kilometers from the nearest coast. The Okavango Delta is a wonderful wetland from rain falling in central Africa over 1 000 km away.

In Botswana, you will never encounter masses of tourists. The higher than normal prices discourage larger budget tour groups and maintain a low density of luxury African safari travelers throughout the Okavango. The importance of being in nature is the highlight for the visitor, while the private concessions throughout Botswana offers some of the most luxurious travel safari lodges and most exclusive luxury African safari experiences in Africa.

Botswana has plenty of wilderness areas - and plenty of wildlife to inhabit it. The country has some of the biggest remaining herds of wildlife in Africa. You can really experience them in their true natural habitat - teeming in the Okavango Delta islands and waterways, feeding on the vast grasslands of Chobe National Park and migrating through the dry saltpans of the Kalahari. With over 450 bird species recorded in the area, the Okavango Delta is a haven for birders. Wildlife is abundant throughout, making the Okavango Delta a true big five luxury safari destination in Africa.

Linyanti Wildlife Reserve Top of Page

To the northeast of the Okavango Delta are the Chobe and Linyanti game reserves. These areas are renowned for their predators and large concentrations of game, particularly elephant. Dereck and Beverly Joubert made the region famous in their National African Geographic films. Eternal Enemies is a classic and chronicles in detail the inter-action between lion and hyena. There are many varied habitats within the Chobe and Linyanti parks, marshes, waterways, riverine forests, dry woodlands and the world famous Savuti Channel.

The Savuti Channel is a waterway' that connects the Linyanti River from Zibadianja lagoon, with the interior of the Chobe National Park the Savute marsh. The Savute has only ever flowed intermittently and dried up for the last time in 1980. Today the Savuti Channel is an open grassland and home to a variety of different animals. Along Chobe National Park's western boundary is the private 275 000 acre Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. This area is very different from the Okavango and should be included in every Botswana itinerary so that luxury African travelers have an ore varied and balanced experience of the country. There are three main features of the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve the Linyanti River, Savute Channel and the woodlands of the interior. Two thirds of the famous Savute Channel is in this private reserve so that the luxury African traveler is able to view the abundant wildlife privately and exclusively. The last stretch of Africa 's Great Rift Valley divide the forests of the interior with the rivers and floodplains of the Linyanti and it is along this ridge (and along the Savuti Channel) that one sees the best African wildlife.
