Chiefs Camp



The Chief’s camp is situated on the northwestern tip of Chief’s Island, in what is termed seasonal delta.

The area is therefore seasonally suffused with flood waters. Generally, the flood waters infiltrate the area in June / July and remain for a period of 4 to 5 months.

ACCOMMODATION

The camp, constructed on a green-field site, comprises of 12 luxury bush pavilions, three with king beds and nine with twin beds. Each pavillion boasts a spacious seating area and private game viewing deck with hammock.

En-suite facilities include an indoor and outdoor shower.Each room is equipped with a hairdryer,ceiling fan, in-room safe, emergency intercomand minibar. The main lodge complex houses the dining area, bar, curio shop, library and reception area.

This structure was built into the existing landscape, under a heavy canopy of mature Jackalberry, Sausage and Rain trees

The elephant experiences offer many magical moments including the interacting with the resident herd of eight elephants, allowing 8 guests to ride at a time (there are 4 ride elephants each taking 2 guests at a time and 4 non-ride elephants in camp).

Abu also offers game drives, night drives, walks and mokoro (dug out canoe) safaris. For guests looking for the ultimate in bush luxury and exclusivity, the private Villa Okavango is situated across the lagoon – a short five minute drive away.

The lower level of the deck houses the swimming pool. A range of spa treatments are offered in a new individual spa facility.

GAME VIEWING

Apart from its predators, the area is also renowned for its large concentrations of plains-game, elephant and buffalo.

Both white & black rhino were introduced in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Game drives are conducted in custom built open 4 X 4 vehicles, which offer individual seating.

ACTIVITIES

Year round multi-activity camp: Day and Night game drives via 2 x open Land Rovers (each vehicle has 9 seats of which 6 are window seats)  The camp does have a supply of bean bags for guests to use to steady their camera while on a game activity.
